Utah State University offering transcontinental railroad lecture series

BRIGHAM CITY — Utah State University's Brigham City campus is offering a lecture series about the transcontinental railroad, coinciding with Spike 150, a celebration of the railroad's completion 150 years ago on May 10, 1869.
The lectures, which are free and open to the public, will be held at 7 p.m. at the campus auditorium, 989 S. Main.
The schedule will be as follows:
• Thursday, Feb. 7: "Laying the Groundwork for the Transcontinental Railroad," by John Barton.
• Thursday, March 7: "Building the Rails, Part 1: Engineering and Construction," by Daren Dance.
• Thursday, April 11: "Building the Rails, Part 2: The People — Key Players," by F. Ross Peterson.
• Thursday, May 9: "Why Promontory? The Joining of the Rails and What It Meant for America."
